Description

A classic comfort food casserole made with layers of seasoned ground beef, creamy soup, melted cheese, and crispy golden tater tots baked to perfection.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tbsp homemade seasoning)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp chopped green onions (for garnish, optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened, about 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in taco seasoning, cream of mushroom soup, and sour cream. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until combined.
  5. Spread beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  7. Arrange tater tots in an even layer on top.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes until tater tots are golden and crispy.
  9. Remove from oven, sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese on top, and return to oven for 5 minutes until melted.
  10. Garnish with green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add frozen mixed vegetables to the beef layer for extra nutrition.
