Description

Chocolate Mascarpone Buttercream is a rich, silky frosting made with mascarpone cheese, butter, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar. Perfect for topping cakes, cupcakes, or sandwiching between cookies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream (as needed)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy and smooth.
  2. Add the mascarpone cheese and continue beating until well combined.
  3. Sift together the powdered sugar and cocoa powder to remove lumps.
  4. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa mixture to the bowl, beating on low speed until incorporated.
  5. Mix in vanilla extract and salt.
  6. Add heavy cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
  7. Beat on medium-high speed for 2–3 minutes until light, fluffy, and spreadable.

Notes

  • Use immediately for the best texture, as mascarpone can soften if left at room temperature too long.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; bring to room temperature before using.
  • Pairs beautifully with chocolate, red velvet, or coffee-flavored cakes.
