Description
A simple and flavorful pasta dish made with Italian chicken sausage, tender bow tie pasta, and a creamy tomato-herb sauce for an easy weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 12 oz bow tie (farfalle) pasta
- 1 lb Italian chicken sausage, sliced or crumbled
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups fresh spinach (optional)
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Cook bow tie pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add Italian chicken sausage and cook until browned. Remove if needed to drain excess grease.
- Add onion and garlic to the skillet, sautéing until softened.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 3–4 minutes.
- Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Stir in Parmesan cheese until melted and the sauce thickens slightly.
- Add spinach (if using) and cook until wilted.
- Toss the cooked pasta with the sauce and sausage until evenly coated.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.
Notes
- For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
- Use spicy chicken sausage if you prefer extra heat.
- Add mushrooms or bell peppers for more veggies.
