Description

Grandma’s Famous Banana Bread is a moist, tender, classic loaf made with ripe bananas, warm vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon—simple, comforting, and loved for generations.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine mashed bananas and melted butter.
  3. Stir in sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Add baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Mix until combined.
  5. Gently fold in flour, mixing just until no streaks remain.
  6. Stir in nuts if using.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Extra-ripe bananas with brown spots give the best flavor and moisture.
  • Do not overmix the batter or the bread may become dense.
  • Add chocolate chips for a sweeter variation.
  • Banana bread freezes well—wrap tightly and freeze up to 3 months.
