Description

Italian Stromboli is a rolled baked sandwich made with pizza dough stuffed with cheese, vegetables, and Italian seasonings, then baked until golden and melty.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: marinara sauce for serving


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  3. In a bowl, mix mozzarella, ricotta, mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  4. Spread the filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
  5. Carefully roll the dough lengthwise into a tight log and pinch the seams to seal.
  6. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Brush the top with beaten egg and make a few small slits on top for steam.
  8. Drizzle lightly with olive oil.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Serve with marinara sauce if desired.

  • Do not overfill to prevent leaking.
  • You can add spinach or onions for extra flavor.
  • Letting it rest helps the cheese set before slicing.
