Description

Old Fashioned Raisin Pie is a classic vintage dessert featuring plump raisins simmered in a lightly spiced, sweet filling baked in a flaky pie crust.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 double pie crust (top and bottom)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a saucepan, combine raisins and water and bring to a gentle boil.
  3. Simmer for 5 minutes until raisins are plump.
  4. In a bowl, mix sugar, flour, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Stir dry mixture into the raisin mixture and cook until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in butter and lemon juice.
  7. Pour filling into prepared pie crust.
  8. Cover with top crust, seal edges, and cut slits for steam.
  9. Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake an additional 30–35 minutes until crust is golden.
  11. Cool before slicing.
