Description
Old Fashioned Raisin Pie is a classic vintage dessert featuring plump raisins simmered in a lightly spiced, sweet filling baked in a flaky pie crust.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups raisins
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 double pie crust (top and bottom)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a saucepan, combine raisins and water and bring to a gentle boil.
- Simmer for 5 minutes until raisins are plump.
- In a bowl, mix sugar, flour, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Stir dry mixture into the raisin mixture and cook until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and lemon juice.
- Pour filling into prepared pie crust.
- Cover with top crust, seal edges, and cut slits for steam.
- Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake an additional 30–35 minutes until crust is golden.
- Cool before slicing.

- Soaking raisins ensures a soft texture.
- Can be served warm or chilled.
- Pairs well with vanilla ice cream.
- Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
