Description

A New York twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, featuring thinly sliced beef, sautéed peppers and onions, melted provolone and mozzarella, all served in a toasted hero roll.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 4 hero rolls (or hoagie rolls)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter (for toasting rolls)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and bell peppers, sautéing until softened and caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, heat remaining olive oil over high heat. Add sliced steak, season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, and cook for 3–4 minutes until browned.
  3. Return onions and peppers to skillet and toss with beef.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Split rolls and butter the insides. Toast in the oven for 3–4 minutes until golden.
  5. Place beef, peppers, and onions into each roll. Top with provolone slices and mozzarella.
  6. Return sandwiches to the oven for 5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve hot with chips or fries on the side.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, drizzle with garlic butter before serving.
  • You can substitute American cheese or Cheez Whiz for a more traditional Philly-style variation.
  • Freezes well—wrap tightly in foil and reheat in the oven.
