Description
A New York twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, featuring thinly sliced beef, sautéed peppers and onions, melted provolone and mozzarella, all served in a toasted hero roll.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs ribeye steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 4 hero rolls (or hoagie rolls)
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp butter (for toasting rolls)
Instructions
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and bell peppers, sautéing until softened and caramelized, about 8–10 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, heat remaining olive oil over high heat. Add sliced steak, season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning, and cook for 3–4 minutes until browned.
- Return onions and peppers to skillet and toss with beef.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Split rolls and butter the insides. Toast in the oven for 3–4 minutes until golden.
- Place beef, peppers, and onions into each roll. Top with provolone slices and mozzarella.
- Return sandwiches to the oven for 5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve hot with chips or fries on the side.
Notes
- For extra flavor, drizzle with garlic butter before serving.
- You can substitute American cheese or Cheez Whiz for a more traditional Philly-style variation.
- Freezes well—wrap tightly in foil and reheat in the oven.
