Description

Crispy golden potato pancakes topped with a savory beef and cheese mixture, making a hearty and satisfying comfort food dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or mozzarella)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place grated potatoes in a clean towel and squeeze out excess moisture. Transfer to a bowl and mix with grated onion, egg, flour, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Spoon potato mixture into small patties and flatten slightly. Fry for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. In another skillet, cook ground beef with chopped onion and garlic until browned, about 6-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Top each potato pancake with a spoonful of beef mixture and sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  6. Place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Make potato pancakes in batches to keep them crispy.
  • For extra flavor, add a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture.
  • Can be served as an appetizer, snack, or main course.
  • Serve with sour cream or a light salad on the side.
