Description

A flavorful Southern-inspired shrimp dirty rice made with seasoned rice, tender shrimp, aromatic vegetables, and warm spices for a hearty one-pan meal.


Ingredients

  • 300 g raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1.5 cups long-grain white rice
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 tsp dried thyme
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.75 tsp salt
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley


Instructions

  1. Rinse rice under cold water until clear and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat.
  3. Add onion, bell pepper, and celery; sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, salt, and black pepper; mix well.
  6. Pour in rice and stir to coat with the seasoning.
  7. Add chicken broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover.
  8. Simmer for 15 minutes until rice is nearly tender.
  9. Stir in shrimp, cover, and cook for another 5–7 minutes until shrimp are pink and cooked through.
  10. Remove from heat, fluff with a fork, and garnish with green onions and parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Chop shrimp into smaller pieces for a more traditional dirty rice texture.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper to control spice level.
