Description

Ruth’s Chris Shrimp & Grits is a rich, Southern-inspired dish featuring creamy cheese grits topped with sautéed shrimp, savory turkey bacon, and a buttery garlic sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 lb (450 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 6 slices turkey bacon, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil in a saucepan. Gradually whisk in grits.
  2. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, for 20–25 minutes until thick.
  3. Stir in heavy cream, butter, and cheddar cheese until smooth. Keep warm.
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, cook turkey bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, sauté garlic for 30 seconds.
  6. Add shrimp, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Cook 2–3 minutes per side until pink.
  7. Return turkey bacon to skillet and add lemon juice.
  8. Spoon grits into bowls and top with shrimp mixture.
  9. Garnish with green onions and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Stone-ground grits provide the best texture.
  • Do not overcook shrimp to avoid toughness.
  • Adjust spice level to taste.
