Description

Sloppy Joe Garlic Bread combines two comfort food classics into one irresistible meal. Crispy, buttery garlic bread is topped with a rich, tangy homemade Sloppy Joe mixture and melted cheese for a quick and satisfying family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced in half lengthwise
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat.
  5. In a small bowl, mix softened butter with garlic powder. Spread evenly over both halves of the French bread.
  6. Place bread halves on the prepared baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5 minutes until slightly crisp.
  7. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture evenly over each bread half and top with shredded cheese.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for 8–10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from oven, sprinkle with parsley, slice, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef for a lighter version.
  • Can substitute the bread with garlic Texas toast for a shortcut.
  • For extra heat, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes to the filling.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven or air fryer.
