Description

Tender, fall-off-the-bone barbecue ribs cooked low and slow in a crockpot, then finished with smoky BBQ sauce for the perfect balance of flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds pork baby back ribs
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (plus more for serving)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs and cut into 3–4 sections to fit into the slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  3. Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over the ribs.
  4. Place the ribs in the slow cooker, standing them upright along the edges if necessary.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the ribs.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until ribs are tender.
  8. Preheat the oven broiler. Carefully transfer ribs to a baking sheet lined with foil.
  9. Brush ribs with additional barbecue sauce and broil for 3–5 minutes, until caramelized and slightly charred.
  10. Serve hot with extra sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For extra smoky flavor, add a few drops of liquid smoke to the sauce.
  • You can substitute baby back ribs with spare ribs, adjusting cook time as needed.
  • Ribs can be finished on the grill instead of the broiler for added char.
