Description
Tomato Mozzarella Toast is a quick open-faced toast inspired by Caprese flavors, topped with ripe tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and olive oil, optionally finished with balsamic glaze for a fresh and satisfying snack or light meal.
Ingredients
- 2 slices rustic bread (sourdough or Italian)
- 1 cup fresh mozzarella, sliced
- 1–2 medium ripe tomatoes, sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil leaves
- Optional: balsamic glaze, to drizzle
- Optional: red pepper flakes, to taste
- Optional: 1 garlic clove (to rub on toast)
Instructions
- Toast the bread slices until golden and crisp.
- (Optional) Rub the warm toast lightly with a cut garlic clove for extra flavor.
- Layer the sliced mozzarella evenly over the warm toast.
- Arrange the tomato slices on top of the cheese.
- Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper.
- (Optional) Broil for 2–3 minutes until the cheese softens slightly.
- Top with fresh basil leaves.
- (Optional) Finish with a drizzle of balsamic glaze and/or a pinch of red pepper flakes. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use ripe, in-season tomatoes for the best flavor.
- Fresh mozzarella (packed in water) gives the creamiest texture; pat it dry to prevent soggy toast.
- For a crisp base, toast the bread well and add toppings right before serving.
