Ingredients
- For the Dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm whole milk (110°F/43°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons whole milk (if needed for consistency)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon of the sugar in the warm milk. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add the remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour and knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Roll the dough into a 16×12-inch rectangle.
- Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
- Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the butter.
- Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log and cut into 12 equal rolls.
- Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until lightly golden and cooked through.
- Meanwhile, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and fluffy.
- Spread the frosting generously over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
Notes
- Use warm, not hot, milk to activate the yeast properly.
- Allow the dough to rise fully for the softest, fluffiest rolls.
- Pour 1/4 cup heavy cream over the rolls before baking for extra gooey cinnamon rolls.
- Serve warm for the best texture and flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
