Description

Creamy French Onion Steak Noodles is a rich and comforting one-pan pasta dish featuring tender steak strips, caramelized onions, silky noodles, and a creamy French onion-inspired sauce finished with melted Gruyère and Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Cook egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add steak strips, season with half the salt and pepper, and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. Add remaining olive oil and butter to the skillet.
  5. Add onions and cook for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized.
  6. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, remaining salt, and pepper.
  8. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  9. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in heavy cream.
  10. Add Gruyère and Parmesan cheese and stir until melted and smooth.
  11. Return steak to the skillet.
  12. Add cooked noodles and toss until fully coated in the sauce.
  13. Cook for 2 minutes until heated through.
  14. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Gruyère cheese provides the classic French onion flavor profile.
  • Do not rush the onion caramelization process for the best flavor.
  • Ribeye steak can be substituted for extra richness.
  • A splash of pasta water can help loosen the sauce if needed.
  • Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 3 days.
