Creamy Mushroom Steak Skillet is a rich one-pan dinner featuring tender steak bites seared to perfection and simmered in a creamy garlic mushroom sauce. This comforting meal delivers steakhouse flavor with minimal cleanup.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 16 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small shallot, finely diced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Season steak bites with half of the salt and black pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add steak and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium and melt butter in the same skillet.
- Add mushrooms and shallot and cook for 6-8 minutes until mushrooms are golden brown.
- Stir in garlic and thyme and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add Worcestershire sauce and beef broth and scrape up any browned bits from the pan.
- Simmer for 3-4 minutes until slightly reduced.
- Stir in heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, Dijon mustard, and remaining salt and pepper.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Return steak to the skillet and simmer for 2 minutes until heated through.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
- Ribeye or New York strip steak can be used instead of sirloin.
- Do not overcrowd the skillet when searing the steak.
- Freshly grated Parmesan creates the smoothest sauce.
- Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
- Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 3 days.
