Description

Garlic Butter Smash Dumpling Skillet is a crispy, savory one-pan meal featuring pan-smashed dumplings cooked until golden, then tossed in a rich garlic butter sauce with Parmesan, herbs, and a hint of chili flakes. This quick and satisfying dish is perfect as an appetizer, lunch, or light dinner.

Ingredients

  • 20 frozen chicken or vegetable dumplings (potstickers or gyoza), thawed slightly
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (optional)
  • Fresh lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the dumplings according to the package directions until fully cooked. Allow them to cool slightly.
  2. Using the bottom of a glass or spatula, gently press each dumpling to flatten to about 1/2-inch thick.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the smashed dumplings in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until deeply golden and crispy.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter.
  6. Stir in the garlic, Italian seasoning, paprika, and red pepper flakes. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Pour in the broth and stir to combine.
  8. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the dumplings and gently toss until coated.
  9. Cook for 1 minute until the cheese melts into the garlic butter sauce.
  10. Garnish with parsley and chives.
  11. Serve immediately with fresh lemon wedges for squeezing over the top.

Notes

  • Chicken, beef, shrimp, or vegetable dumplings all work well.
  • Do not overcrowd the skillet to ensure maximum crispiness.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or spinach for a heartier meal.
  • Freshly grated Parmesan melts best and provides the richest flavor.
  • Serve with garlic aioli, spicy mayo, or marinara for dipping if desired.
