Description

Orange Creamsicle Breakfast Rolls are soft, fluffy sweet rolls filled with bright orange flavor and topped with a creamy vanilla-orange glaze. Inspired by the nostalgic creamsicle treat, these rolls are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a citrusy dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • 3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, salt, and flour.
  3. Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
  6. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough.
  7. Mix sugar, orange zest, and orange juice to create the filling.
  8. Spread the orange filling evenly over the dough.
  9. Roll tightly into a log and slice into 12 rolls.
  10. Place rolls into a greased baking dish and let rise for 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  12. Bake rolls for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and orange zest until smooth.
  14. Spread glaze over warm rolls.
  15. Serve fresh and enjoy.

Notes

  • Fresh orange zest gives the strongest creamsicle flavor.
  • Do not overheat the milk or it may prevent the yeast from activating.
  • Add white chocolate chips to the filling for a sweeter variation.
  • Best enjoyed warm shortly after baking.
  • Store leftovers covered for up to 3 days.
